St. Croix Riverfest
is a two-day (Friday & Saturday) community-based celebration of the Upper St.
Croix – Eau Claire Rivers Watershed, and is intended to recognize local citizens
and organizations and to promote stewardship of our streams, lakes, rivers, and wetlands.
The Riverfest 2008
theme is Meet the waters, Meet the People, Celebrate our Nature:

Watershed
Conference on Friday to discuss pride of place, our common historical legacy, and the
status of the health of the watershed. Included will be presentations by
local groups, youth and adult citizen volunteers, and agencies.

Patagonia
Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival on Friday evening
& Kid's Special Film Festival on Saturday.

Festival
of the Arts on Saturday.

Watershed-wide
community-events celebration on Saturday including
canoe rides, water trail paddle, underwater video demonstration, pontoon classroom, youth events, local tours, and
much more.

St. Croix
Living History project.
Solon Springs, Wisconsin on June 13-14, 2008. Solon Springs
is located in southeastern Douglas County on Highway 53.
The region of land whose water drains into a specified body of
water. The Upper St. Croix - Eau Claire Rivers Watershed is
the region of land that drains into the St. Croix National Scenic
Riverway via the Gordon Dam. The shape of our watershed is
triangular and is roughly bounded by Solon Springs, Barnes, and
Gordon.

The Upper St. Croix Watershed Alliance (USCWA) is a local group
of lake and river organizations working together to maintain and
improve water quality in the Upper St. Croix - Eau Claire Rivers
watershed. Participants include Douglas County Association of
Lakes and Streams, Friends of the St. Croix Headwaters, Gordon/St.
Croix Flowage Association, Property Owners Association Barnes/Eau
Claire Lakes Area, and Upper St. Croix Lake Association.

The
St. Croix River Basin is a relatively large area roughly shaped like
Africa, with half in Wisconsin and half in Minnesota. The
dotted line shows the Wisconsin border and Lake Superior at the top
of the map. The Basin extends from Prescott at the bottom to
about 40 miles south of Lake Superior on the Wisconsin north side.
The area in red is our (Upper St. Croix - Eau Claire Rivers)
watershed. Other colored areas represent other watersheds in
the St. Croix River Basin.

Sustainable Tourism is an approach to tourism development that does
not degrade our key natural resources. It attracts tourists
who come to our area (only) because our natural resources are
relatively pristine.

The Patagonia Wild & Scenic Environmental Film Festival, which
will be part of Riverfest 2008, is a selection of inspiring
environmental films designed to bring the community together around
the protection of our natural resources.

The St. Croix Living History project is the creation of a library
of video recordings of long-time residents recalling their memories of living in
this area. These recorded segments are being made in cooperation with
local
historical societies, and are intended to recognize and celebrate
individuals in our community.
